How to Deal with the Anxiety and Pain of Body Piercings

We get it, getting a piercing can be overwhelming, intimidating, scary and painful and for a lot of people those fears are the reasons that people end up not getting the piercings they want, well with years of experience we have some proven ways to help reduce the pain and the nerves and make your body piercing less scary and more achievable!

  1. Recon; you can email or call and ask questions before you ever set foot in a studio, read reviews, ask friends and check out the studios websites to ensure you feel educated, knowledgeable and comfortable with the entire experience.
  2. Talk to Your Piercer; let them know your concerns and fears, trust me - good piercers have heard it all and can easily walk you through the process and ease your nerves - they can let you know what to expect and even suggest things to make the process less painful or stressful
  3. Breathing; I know, so cliche but breathing techniques can absolutely help remove your mind from the immediate and allow you to focus internally so you can be more calm and breathing is proven to help manage pain. Don't hold your breath when you're stressed, just focus on breathing in and out slowly and deeply.
  4. Ibuprofen, Good Food & Lots of Sleep; if you can medically take some ibuprofen before the piercing it can help alleviate some swelling and pain immediately. Having a good healthy meal before you come in can help give you energy, keep your blood sugars up and help your body handle the anxiety and the rush of endorphins from piercings and get a good nights sleep before - don't be out late drinking and going to bed at a stupidly early hour, take the night to give your body what it needs to best handle the physical and mental toll that the piercing and more realistically excessive stress will do.
